Poster: Codes and Conventions

The colour of the title is in red, which symbolises danger, blood, mystery and terror, this links in with the genre of the film. Leonardo DiCaprio's face is half in shadow which shows the secretiveness of the film and he is holding a lit matchstick which symbolises the darkness of the film. It shows an image of the actual island, which shows the audience where the film is going to take place, it is also the setting of the story.

The codes and conventions of this poster are that the text of the title is in bold, red font. This stands out and captures the audiences attention. Leonardo DiCaprio's name is in bold white font at the top of the page and the rest of the actors' names are underneath his in smaller font, because he is the main attraction of the film as he is famous and well known.

This is different to the other two posters because the font of the title is in pink and held in a bar of soap. The actors names are at the top of the poster and their second names are in bold, more so than their first names. The name of the director is given just underneath the actors' names; this will draw the audience in as he is famous and the audience might want to watch the film because of the director.

The title font is in black and looks as if someone has written the title, as the pictures look like snap shots and people would generally write on them the date, who is in it and what they were doing, so the title makes it look like a message. The image is in the centre of the page so it draws the audiences attention to the poster and then their attention will be drawn to the title because it is in bold font.
