Empire magazine: Front cover analysis

Front cover: Analysis

Mast head/ Main Heading - Red font dominates the page, as the first thing we see is the title of the magazine. It's a popular brand of film magazine, so with a dominating colour, it makes the magazine eye-catching and it's also boost the power of the main image, which takes over the centre of the page. The main heading is also in red because it boost the name of the film to the reader, it creates a sense of danger and action surrounding the film.

It boosts the energy.

The sub-headings - Text (Arial/Bold) and in the colours black and white. These are also eye catching because they contrast from the background of the front cover, it makes the promotion of new films dominating and inviting. It shows that these are also key items and articles that audiences should read.

Bar code - The bar code is placed at the right hand side, bottom of the page. They have done this to make the bar code th last focus and the last thing you will look at. It makes the main centre image significantly more important. The bar code is also small, for the same above reasons.

Plugs - The plugs are scattered across the left and right hand side of the front cover, they are placed in the colour black, which is again, a contrast to the background of the front cover. They also contrast with the main and sub heading of the magazine, as the black shows these are not as important as the text placed in red.

Puffs - There is one main puff with is placed on the main male figure in the picture, it's a circular shape which is coloured Gold. It makes this headline more prestigious than the others, and makes it look more siginificantley important. It also has references to awards, as most are in the colour Gold.

The background image is a screenshot from the movie, so again very relevant to what it is promoting. It adds a lure of mystery arouund the film, as we want to find out what the image shows and why it is so important.
The image is frosty blue which is again dominating but adds even more to the mystery they are very simple but powerful colours.
